ACOUSTIC SOLO PIANO MUSIC
The Swedish pianist and composer Carl Liungman works exclusively with acoustic pianos. He finds a unique sonic expression which contemporary digital instruments cannot replicate. Carl’s way of playing on the acoustic grand piano creates a significantly emotive depth and natural reverb.
Carl is often searching for harmonic melodic simplicity trying to evolve new perspectives on the easy listening piano genre. But as a contrast he also uses minimalism and rhythmic repetetive figures as well as disharmonic structures of the contemporary genre. Carl strives to evoke emotional experiences and penetrate the heart of the listener in surprising and sometimes even disturbing ways. In his music complex and simple musical ideas spinn together as opposites attract.
THE CORE OF FILM MUSIC
Carl has the ambition to broaden the use of solo piano in film music. In the acoustic piano sound he recognizes a unique film music potential that is wider than the often narrow romantic use of piano music in films. Too often film makers underestimate the power of the acoustic piano as an effective emotional tool of great range. In addition there is a common belief that film music should be underlining the expression and story of the film. Carl would say that doing the opposite could do wonders when it comes to mesmerizing the audience.
Film makers – be inspired to apply piano film scores in new ways! And don’t hesitate to contact Carl for an exciting collaboration…
